Childcare settings are continuously encouraged to monitor and evaluate the quality of their provision through many of the different services we offer.

All Bristol childcare providers are allocated a dedicated Development and Support (DS) worker who can give support and advice.  Members are also able to access our other support services such as our library, loan equipment, newsletter, DBS checks, website and social media platforms. All of these can be used to maintain and improve quality of care and play across the city.

Full BAND members access the added benefit of an annual monitoring visit. This looks at all aspects of a setting as well as concentrating on current issues and trends that have been identified. We continuously update this monitoring process on an annual basis to ensure that the settings are getting up to date support and guidance.

We continue to develop and update our Policy Guidance Pack, an invaluable resource for our members enabling them to respond to changes in legislation that impact on their practice by adapting model policies we provide to be applicable and appropriate to their setting.

As a team, the DS workers continue to build and develop an extensive network of organisations and individuals involved in play and childcare. We attend relevant local and national meetings and events to ensure that we were aware of changes to the sector that could impact on settings, so information disseminated is current and relevant.

On a local level we work closely with the departments from Bristol City Council to offer holistic and complementary support in partnership to groups where this is needed. A large percentage of childcare places continue to be offered by school run settings and we now work closely with the maintained sector across the 0-11 year old age range. This ensures that particularly with the over 5’s we are helping to achieve high quality play environments.
