Job title: Farm Hands Engagement Worker (Sunday)
Accountable to: Chairperson of Management Committee
Reporting to: Farm Manager
Salary: £21,112 Full Time Equivalent, £4,222 per annum actual
Hours per week: Sundays 9.00am – 5.00pm, 7 hrs
Annual Leave: 36 days including bank and public holidays, 7 pro rata
Location: Lawrence Weston Community Farm


Main purposes of the job

To organise and deliver weekly Farm Hands sessions for 8 – 11yr olds who are in need of positive activities primarily by supporting them to benefit from participating in the daily routine of the farm.

  • Plan, coordinate and deliver 2 x 2hr weekly Farm Hands volunteering sessions on Sundays on the farm site (including woodland, gardens and orchard) for 8-11yr olds.
  • Manage applications, inductions, monitoring for Farm Hands participants, undertake record keeping and contribute to report writing.
  • Work with colleagues to promote the Farm Hands project to local families, schools, organisations and support services to attract, recruit and support young people on to the Farm Hands project – reaching those who are isolated, lack access to opportunities or are otherwise disadvantaged.
  • Ensure activities are undertaken with due regard to best practice and farm policies including Child Protection & Safe Guarding, Health & Safety, Equalities & Diversity and to Risk Assess activities and sessions.
  • Help supervise the farm site and ensure that it remains fully operational, safe and welcoming e.g. free from rubbish, obstructions dangerous objects or hazardous situations.
  • Present a positive imaged of the farm and assist the public and service users.
  • Comply at all times with Farm policies, work within the line management system and promote the aims and objectives of the organisation.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the staff team and use the established systems of communication to ensure the smooth running of the farm.
  • Undertake cleaning duties including the toilets as and when required.
  • Help with the opening and closing routine of the farm.
  • Carry out other duties commensurate with the responsibilities of the post.

Outdoor work
This role requires the post holder to work outside in all sessions and in all weather. The ability to perform tasks of a physical nature including lifting, bending and kneeling is required.


Work with animals
This work involves working with farm animals for example, animal care, mucking out, animal handling, feeding / watering and preparing bedding. Full training will be provided.
