This course is aimed at playworkers and volunteers, aged at least 16 years old, who are working with children and young people 4 – 16 years in a variety of play settings. It is an introduction to the key aspects of supporting play opportunities and provides an understanding of the importance of play in children and young people’s lives. It increases knowledge of playwork practice and the role of a playworker. The course includes:

This qualification is aimed at playworkers and volunteers, aged at least 16 years old, who are working in a play environment with children aged 4 – 16 years. The course will include:

  • Child development and the role of the playworker
  • Playwork Principles
  • Play types and the play process
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Supporting children and young people’s freely chosen, self directed play
  • Communication and building relationships in the play environment
  • Health and safety
  • Safeguarding children
  • Play environment

This course requires learners to:

  • Attend 10 taught sessions (term time only).
  • Complete worksheets for a portfolio of evidence.
  • Complete a work place task.

Cost:£100 to Ofsted registered Bristol based settings and BAND members. £325 all others. 10% discount to non-Bristol BAND member groups.

Please ensure you write your setting's name and Ofsted number on the booking form. Once your form has been received the Training Officer will contact you to discuss eligibility for a funding bursary and arrange for you to come in to complete the required forms.
