Overview of the Role

As a Pre-School Room Leader, you will be responsible for leading the day-to-day running of the pre-school room, creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where children can learn, develop, and thrive. You will lead by example, supporting and motivating a team of practitioners to deliver high-quality early years education and care in line with the EYFS framework and safeguarding requirements.

The successful candidate will build strong relationships with children, families, and colleagues, ensuring every child receives outstanding care and learning opportunities tailored to their individual needs. You will take ownership of planning engaging activities, monitoring children’s development, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring the room is well organised, inclusive, and inspiring.

You will also play an important role in mentoring team members, promoting best practice, and supporting the nursery’s vision and values.

Candidate Specifications

We are looking for a passionate, enthusiastic, and experienced early years professional who genuinely loves working with children and supporting their development. The ideal candidate will be confident leading a team, highly organised, and committed to providing exceptional childcare and education.

Qualifications and Experience Required

Essential Criteria (Must Have):

  • Full and relevant early years Level 3 or above qualification
  • Previous experience in a Room Leader, Senior Practitioner, or similar leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of the EYFS framework and safeguarding procedures
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to plan engaging and developmentally appropriate activities
  • Experience supporting children’s learning, wellbeing, and school readiness
  • A positive, proactive, and nurturing approach

Desirable Criteria (Nice to Have):

  • Experience working within a forest school or outdoor learning environment
  • Knowledge of SEND and inclusive practice
  • Paediatric First Aid qualification
  • Experience mentoring or supporting staff development
