38: Have fun with slime

Have fun with slime. Make the classic gloop recipe from cornflour, water and food colouring. Solid one minute and liquid the next children love to experiment with it. Put it in small film canisters for dipping a finger into or in a tray so you can draw through it with a stick or finger. There are other newer sticky slimes to be created which are a combination of PVA glue, bicarbonate of soda, liquid gel (cake) colour, contact lens solution, shaving foam and often glitter. One cup of glue to 1 teaspoon of bicarb of soda and ½ cup of shaving foam, mix together. Add the food colour and then mix in 1 tablespoon of contact lens solution with a spoon. It should be quite stringy. Then knead it with your hand, it will be sticky to start with, but should soon only stick to itself. If it doesn’t add a few more drops of contact lens solution, be careful if you add too much it will become brittle. You should now have some elastic slime, add glitter, sequins or anything else to add interest. Please note: tell children not to put it in their mouths, if they are too young to tell, best to stick with a classic playdough recipe. For more on slime see here..

*Remember: always risk – assess your activities!
