Play Wales have just published the first of a new series of guides that explore some of the theories that influence the way adults understand children, the role of play and childhood, as well as the ethics of working with playing children.

This guide includes short but detailed explanations and critiques of some of the concepts and theories of child development and childhood that continue to influence the understanding of children and their play.

You can download it here: https://issuu.com/playwales/docs/playwork_guides_-_volume_1

It’s an informative read for everyone involved in play and playwork. It’s both valuable and important to revisit our perceptions of childhood, child development and play regularly so we can ensure that children’s play needs are kept at centre stage.
