Grantmaking Strategy 2022-2025

At BBC Children in Need, children and young people are at the heart of what they do. After the events of the last few years, they have developed a new charitable ambition and grantmaking strategy. This strategy focusses on our principles of:

• Sharing power with children and young people
• Acting flexibly
• Using our voice to build awareness and empathy around issues
• Building partnerships to bring communities and investors together

As part of this, they have made some significant changes to the grantmaking model:

• They will continue to offer project based funding, similarly to how we have in the past.
• They will be offering funding for core (organisational) costs as a separate grants stream.
• From 2023 they will offer a funding stream for smaller, emerging organisations. This stream is aimed at organisations who may need greater support to access our funding.

Organisations will only be able to apply for one of these streams per year. Your organisation should choose which stream is most suitable to your work and they will provide more detailed information about them, over the coming months. We will also give more details about our funding priorities at a local and regional level.

Grants will be given in the following categories:

Project Grants Funding Stream – Project Costs funding supports the aims and delivery of a specific piece of work.

Core Grants Funding Stream – Core costs funding can be spent on an organisation’s central running and operating costs.

Emergency Essentials – Our Emergency Essentials grants provide items that meet children’s most basic needs.

Pudsey Next Steps Fundraising Stream – It focuses on new applicants working in under-served geographic areas across the UK. This round aims to reach under-served and marginalised children and young people. They may be affected by challenges including poverty, discrimination, and exclusion. For example, this could include care experienced or disabled children and young people. It may include children and young people from minoritised ethnic communities.

Pudsey Next Steps will reopen for applications in 2025.
