THE LINNEAN SOCIETY UK NATURE ENGAGEMENT GRANTS


Grants up to £1,000 for UK community organisations and schools to increase young people’s involvement in and understanding of nature.

Application deadline: Sunday 1 November 2020 at 23:59.
Funder: The Linnean Society of London (founded 1788. Charity number 220509. Total charitable expenditure during the year ended 31 December 2019: £1,449,821).
Who can apply: UK charities, community groups, schools, student groups and school staff. Other types of organisation may also be able to apply for a grant.

The Linnean Society of London is currently inviting applications from UK community organisations and schools for small grants of up to £1,000 for projects which increase youth engagement with local natural spaces and encourage a deeper appreciation and understanding of nature.

Projects should involve children and young people aged 16 and under.

Examples of eligible projects include (please note this is not an exclusive list):

o Building or restoring a community garden.
o Creating a nature walk.
o Hiring speakers to give presentations and talks about nature.
o Painting community murals showcasing biodiversity in the area,
 and
o Running a school festival about nature.

Grants can be used for (again, this is not an exclusive list):

o Costs associated with events or activities.
o Materials.
o Project costs.
o Publicity.
o Room hire.
o Speakers.
o Training.
o Transport, 
and
o Volunteer expenses.

Funding is not available for:

o Costs that are already covered by other funding.
o General running costs.
o Large non-consumable equipment (e.g. purchasing microscopes or computers).
o Large prizes.
o More than 50% of the grant on project staff costs or refreshments.
o On-going salary costs, 
or
o Overheads that are paid for by other income.
