In 2015 there was a legal duty on all regulated professionals in relation to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) called the Mandatory Reporting Duty. This meant that any professional who signs up to a regulatory body to be able to practice their profession, would have to report to the police any known cases of FGM.

This vital training aims to enable professionals to protect children who are at risk of FGM.

Key outcomes

  • Learn about FGM, and the effects of this procedure on children;
  • Become familiar with the law and the statutory responsibilities of professionals regarding FGM;
  • Spot the signs of children at risk of, or who have suffered from, FGM and be able to report and refer effectively;
  • Effectively manage a disclosure of FGM;
  • Develop your cultural competence; and
  • Become aware of local and national FGM support services.

Participants will leave this course equipped with the knowledge and skills to be able to deliver awareness training back in their own settings.
